The marriage of Katrin and Richard Lot has become a routine. She has a career and he, as a Marine officer, comes home only once every fourteen days. The children greet him with joy, but she greets him only with anxiety because their marriage is missing its key: love. She wants a divorce, but he refuses mainly out of comfort as well as due to remarks from the party. Katrin finds a strange solution. She shoplifts and is put on probation for three months. This is enough to force Richard into a divorce, because he is concerned about the "moral liability" of his wife. Katrin gets her way and is promised custody of her children. Because of her thievery, she can no longer be a teacher, but at least she is free and doesn't need to live a lie anymore.

This melodrama about love in the third age focuses on the 65-year-old Mathilde living alone after the death of her husband. When she gets to know the attractive Carlo in the opera, she sleeps with him at the same evening. Mathilde tries to call him up some days later, but learns he gave her a wrong number. Despite this disappointing experience, she gets to know the sympathetic Hannes. They become a couple, but after a while, Mathilde meets Carlo, who apologizes and admits being married to a dead sick woman, again...

Heinrich Lutter is unemployed and lives with his two sons Mike and Günni. Both need his full attention: Mike has a criminal record and Günni has been disabled since birth. The only thing that keeps him going is his camper van - his symbol of freedom and a better life in Italy. But his dream on four wheels is confiscated by the authorities. Nevertheless, he refuses to be deterred and continues to hold on to his conviction that he can honestly obtain his rights and realize his visions.

A teacher at a German high-school in the nineteen thirties has issues with his students who seem to be getting less human and more convinced of Nazi ideals as time goes on.
